United Pet Group Expands Recall List You And Your Pet Could Get Salmonella

I just received an email from my vet alerting me to the recall list for United Pet Group. The email said, “United Pet Group Voluntarily Expands Occupy of Nutritional Supplements for Dogs to Include Additional tablets and Powdered Form Products for Dogs and cats because of Possible Salmonella Health Risk.”

The email from my vet went on to state that if you handled any of this product when giving it to your pet, you could get salmonella poisoning as well. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning in humans include, nausea, vomiting fever, diarrhea and stomach cramps. If your pet is infected it may be lethargic, vomit or indicate evidence of a fever as well.

A healthy pet can carry the salmonella virus and infect other pets. If you have given your pet any of the products mentioned on the recall list, it is advised that you keep a close leer on them and alert your vet to the fact that your pet has consumed one of the United pet Group products that is being voluntarily recalled.

The entire list is available at the Federal Drug Administration site. It is quite an extensive list and includes Doctors Foster and Smith Brewers Yeast and several other Foster and Smith Supplements.

Other brands are Petco Breath Tabs and Ear Powder, Excel Glucosamine Joint Care, Behavioral aids and gas aids, DDS and Pro Pet Supplements. For a complete list, please check out the web dwelling below.

This recall is voluntary on the piece of United Pet Group and states that the products are sold nationally in various retail stores. The effected products have expiration dates that are between January 2013 and June 2013. Any products before or after that date are not included in the recall so please check your expiration dates if you have any of these.

If you have any of these products and have given them to your cat or dog, contact your vet and conclude using the supplements immediately. Use care and caution and wash your hands thoroughly after handling them. The recall also urged consumers to contact United Pet Group at 1-877-399-5226, Monday through Friday. Their hours are 8:30 to 5:00 pm EST

For your and your pet’s safety, look through the recall list and make determined you do not have any of these pills or powder in your home, or have given them to your pet recently. The recall statement was issued on July 2, 2010. I was not aware of it until my vet notified me today. I do not have any of these products. Hopefully you do not either. Hopefully, if you do, you or your pet are not showing any ill signs. Check out the list for you and your pet’s sake!
